What I See When I Read the Bible When I read the Bible, especially in the King James Version, I see something that goes beyond just individual stories. I see God’s relationship with man. I see His kingdom and His laws. I see what happened when those laws were broken, and I see what I believe was God’s plan to bring mankind back to His ways through Jesus. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.” When I read that, I don’t see it as just another verse. I see it as something that connects to the entire story of the Bible. I also hear many things being said about the Bible today. I hear people say that King James was a pedophile. I hear people say that books have been removed from the Bible, or that the Bible was written to control the masses, and so on. But when I hear these things, I have to ask myself a question: Don’t you think God already knew that all of this was going to happen? None of this was, or is, a surprise to God. God said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall never pass away.” Jesus also said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” So I have to ask: What’s the problem? When I look at what is happening in the world right now, I can’t help but think about what I have read in the Bible. How can words that were written thousands of years ago still seem to connect with things we are seeing and hearing about today? That is what makes me stop and think. How can what was written so long ago appear in the newspapers and the world around us today? And if I can see those connections, why am I still trying so hard to justify the Bible to someone else? For me, the answer is simple: I don’t believe I need to justify God’s Word. I need to read it, study it, listen to it, and decide what it means in my own walk with God. That is what I am doing.
